Cape Coast Mayor Excites NCCE Boss with Demonstrated Effort to Support Commission on Effective Operational Delivery

Mayor of the Cape Coast Metropolitan Assembly in the Central Region, Hon. George Justice-Arthur, has impressed the Chairperson of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), Ms. Catherine Addy with his commitment to supporting the Commission to enhance its operations and effectively deliver on its constitutional mandate.

This was established during a working visit by the NCCE Chairperson to the office of the Cape Coast Mayor with her Metro and Regional officials on Wednesday, 9th September, 2026, to deliberate on critical matters impeding the growth of the city.

Hon. George Justice-Arthur in welcoming the NCCE Boss to his office and metropolis at large, underscored the importance of creating an enabling environment for the Commission to function effectively and reach more residents with civic education programmes.

He remarked a strong appreciation over the pivotal role the Commission plays in promoting civic awareness, democratic values, responsible citizenship, effective information dissemination and good governance within the metropolis.

The Cape Coast Mayor further outlined the role NCCE is tasked to play within the metropolis in the numerous novel programmes implanted by the Assembly to improve sanitation, prevent teenage pregnancy, drug abuse among the youth, enhance revenue mobilization and fatal deaths through accident with its initiatives like Green Cape Coast, Death Free Cape Coast, Children Under-18 among others.

Ms. Catherine Addy in her address, expressed appreciation to the Cape Coast Mayor on his unwavering gesture and willingness to collaborate with the Commission, describing the support as an important step towards strengthening civic education activities within the Cape Coast Metropolis.

She welcomed the Mayor’s approach, stressing that effective civic education requires collaboration among state institutions, local authorities, civil society and communities.

The NCCE Chairperson again noted that adequately resourced civic education programmes carries enough strength to help empower citizens to understand their responsibilities, demand accountability and contribute meaningfully to local development.

She emphasized that drugs addiction, teenage pregnancy and others do impact negatively not only the health but the economy of the country, hence the need for the collaboration with NCCE to sensitized the communities through public education.
