Energy Commission insists the public buy appliances with commission's 'yellow' labels

The Energy Commission has urged the members of the public to always check the commission's labels before procuring electrical appliances.

According to Engineer John Adjei, Senior Manager at the Energy Efficiency Unit of the Commission, the commission had introduced and pasted its 'Yellow' labels on electrical appliances, asking the public to refrain from buying appliances without the labels.

He said the appliances, especially air conditioners and refrigerators without the labels were not energy efficient and consume high electricity, saying that those who bought those appliances did so at their own risk.

Engineer Adjei gave the advice in an interview with the media on the sidelines of a stakeholder's engagement meeting on the commission's draft Energy Performance Certification (EPC) Regulation document.

Engineer Adjei also highlighted on the draft EPC document.

Mr Thompson Ampomah, an Assistant Programme Officer at the Bono Regional Office of the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) described the formulation of the EPC as a good step, however called on the commission to work more on the draft.

He said he was optimistic the commission would address certain gaps identified by stakeholders in the draft.
