Cape Coast Mayor Calls for More Support for Acclaimed SHSs in Cape Coast

The Cape Coast Metropolitan Chief Executive, Hon. George Justice Arthur, has called for increased support for Senior High Schools (SHSs) in the Cape Coast Metropolis, particularly the well-established schools that continue to play a significant role in the development of education in the area.

The Mayor made the call while distributing 300 street bulbs and 150 dustbins to the 11 Senior High Schools in Cape Coast as part of efforts to support these schools and improve its learning and living environments.

According to him, there is a general perception that well-known schools such as Mfantsipim School, Holy Child School, St. Augustine’s College and others do not face challenges because of their reputation and long-standing history.

He, however, noted that the reality is different, stressing that these schools still require substantial support to provide the needed facilities and amenities for students and teachers.

Hon. George further indicated that the Assembly would make provision in its 2025–2026 budgetary allocation for the procurement of essential amenities, including chairs, beds and other items, for the Senior High Schools in the metropolis.

He said particular attention would be given to schools such as Mfantsipim, Holy Child, St. Augustine’s and other major institutions to help address some of their logistical challenges.

The gesture was welcomed by the various heads of these beneficiary schools, who expressed appreciation to the Cape Coast Metropolitan Assembly (CCMA) for the support.

These heads of the schools, however, appealed for further assistance in providing chairs, tables, beds, school buses and other essential facilities to enable their schools to improve their operations and create a conducive environment for teaching and learning.

They emphasized that additional support from the Assembly, government, old students, corporate institutions and other stakeholders would go a long way towards helping the schools maintain and improve their academic standards.
