Galamsey fight: Successive govts have fail the nation-Methodist Church

The Synod Secretary of the Methodist Church, Sunyani Diocese, Very Rev. Solomon Bruce, says vested interests in illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey, are making the fight against the practice increasingly difficult.

He said both past and present governments have failed to effectively address the galamsey menace, resulting in the country’s natural resources, which should be a blessing, becoming a curse due to poor management.

Speaking on the Friday edition of Sompa FM Ade Akye Abia, hosted by Kwasi Kyei Baffour, Very Rev. Dr. Bruce said if Ghana were serious about ending illegal mining, the country should be able to significantly address the problem within a year.

He alleged that galamsey benefits some traditional leaders, members of the clergy and government officials, arguing that such vested interests contribute to the difficulty in fighting the menace.

He therefore called for stronger commitment and decisive action from all stakeholders to protect Ghana’s natural resources
