An armed robbery attack on two mobile money venders left two people dead at Fiapre in the Sunyani West Municipality of the Bono Region.
The two mobile money vendors (young women) who sustained gunshot wounds are presently on admission at the Sunyani Teaching Hospital, responding to treatment.
The police had since deposited the bodies at the hospital’s mortuary for preservation and autopsy.
During a visit to the town, Sompa FM gathered from residents that the incident happened on Wednesday August 5, 2026 around 0700hours.
According to the residents, the suspected robbers, numbering about three and wielded AK 47 rifles, attacked the mobile money vendors, and fired gunshots sporadically to scare onlookers.
In the process, a stray bullet hit and killed one Ibrahim, a resident who attempted to catch a glimpse, Sompa FM learnt from the residents.
The residents later identified the lifeless body of Fulani at the scene suspected to be one of the armed robbers, as the two other robbers successfully made away with their GHC40,000 booty.
Meanwhile, Mr Kwasi Asante Boateng, the Sunyani West Municipal Chief Executive had since visited and consoled Ibrahim’s family.
He also visited the injured mobile money vendors at the Sunyani Teaching Hospital and wished them speedy recovery.
Mr Boateng told the media that police investigations were ongoing, assuring that the Sunyani West Municipal Security Committee was collaborating with the security agencies for improved security and urged the residents to remain calm.
