Dr Christian Gyebi, the Manager at the Pendmik Pharmacy in Sunyani has
urged the members of the public to maintain good oral hygiene, eat
balanced meals and to prevent tooth decay.
He said poor oral hygiene, particularly failure to brush the teeth after eating at night, could encourage the growth of micro-organisms that contributed to tooth decay and infections.
In an interview with Sompa FM in Sunyani, Dr Gyebi explained that although tooth cavities were common among older people, children and young people were increasingly experiencing the condition.
Dr Gyebi noted that habits played an integral role in the development of tooth cavities, although hereditary factors could also contribute to that condition.
He said tooth decay could lead to swelling, pain, headaches and other discomforts which might affect a person's daily activities.
While advising those with tooth cavities to seek professional dental care and treatment, Dr Gyebi cautioned against relying solely on herbal remedies, saying that some herbal medicines were efficacious for temporary pain relief, they could not treat underlying problem.
