The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary Hopeful for Cape Coast North Constituency in the Central Region, Dr. Anastasia Nana Ama Kumi-Korsah, has urged farmers to desist the excessive application of fertilizer on farm produce in order to minimize its health risk implications.
Dr. Kumi-Korsah made the call at a health screening exercise she organized at the Abura Market in Cape Coast for residents and traders of the market.
According to her, the indiscriminate use of chemical fertilizers on vegetables and other food crops poses serious health risks to consumers and must be discouraged.
She said farmers should adopt safer and more organic methods of farming to ensure food safety for all.
The health screening program saw about 500 people, mostly market women and residents, benefiting from eye screening, blood pressure and diabetes checks.
Dr. Kumi-Korsah also used the occasion to advise NPP faithfuls to exercise decorum and remain united to rescue power in the next general elections.
Meanwhile, participants in the health screening expressed their satisfaction and gratitude for the gesture extended to them. They commended Dr. Kumi-Korsah for bringing healthcare to their doorstep and appealed for more of such interventions.
