Head coach of the Black Queens of Ghana, Kim Lars Bjorkegren is impressed with the sides’ progress as he assesses the performance of the team under year review.
Bjorkegren took over the Black Queens coaching job early 2025, replacing Nora Hauptle, who departed to join the Zambia Women national team.
The 43-year-old tactician has since chalked some successes with the West African women football giants, securing bronze medal at the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations and qualifying the Queens for the next edition of the tournament.
The Black Queens ended the year with a 1-0 friendly defeat to powerhouse, England at the St Mary’s Stadium, Southampton.
And according to Bjorkegren, the Black Queens are doing extremely well and is looking to chalking more success with the team in the upcoming years.
“I feel that we are doing extremely well right now. We used the first couple of friendlies to rotate a lot to take a look at the squad to give some of the players that had been in the squad before a chance and since then, we have been giving a lot of other players a chance”
“Some of the players grabbed the opportunity. But at the end of the day, we find a really good squad into the WAFCON. We had pre-camp before we grow a lot as a group, we enjoyed the time of the pitch and we worked hard with a lot of meetings”
Bjorkegren and his charges will now shift their attention to the upcoming Women’s African Cup of Nations tournament, scheduled for 2026.
