CCOD launches 10th anniversary, advocates a national coaching, mentorship policy

The College for Community and Organisational Development (CCOD), a private technical university, specialised in Organisational Development (OD) courses has launched its 10th anniversary celebration with a call for a national coaching and mentorship policy to guide organisational development.

"Our public and private sectors suffer from low productivity not because Ghanaians are lazy, but because there is no structured coaching for performance improvement", Dr Gabriel Gbiel Benarkuu, the President of the CCOD stated.

Speaking at a ceremony in Sunyani, he described the nation's growing youth employment situation as a "mentorship crisis", saying that: "We have graduates with certificates but no mentors to guide them from school to work".

The anniversary is being celebrated on the theme: "Celebrating 10 years of OD education in West Africa: Ghana should develop national coaching and mentorship policy".

Dr Benarkuu expressed worry that the exodus of youth abroad was partly due to the lack of local mentors to help them leverage and navigate opportunities in the country.

Dr Benarkuu recollected the history of the establishment of the CCOD, highlighting that countries like the United States, Germany and Singapore had national coaching standards, saying that until Ghana developed and implemented coaching and mentorship policy for its workforce, the nation could not achieve her 'reset agenda'.

Professor Joseph Amikuzuno, the Chairman of the Governing Council of the CCOD, noted that OD had huge potential for the nation's workforce and productivity.
