Bawumia criticizes gov't over present economic hardship

The Former Vice President Alhaji Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the Election 2028 flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has criticized the government, saying that President John Dramani Mahama has failed in addressing the economic challenges of the country.

He said the decline in inflation figures and the reduction in the exchange rates, as touted by the government had not reflected into the pockets of Ghanaians.

Alhaji Dr Bawumia regretted that majority of Ghanaians were still going through serious economic challenges, saying that market women were struggling to meet their daily sales.

He was speaking at a thanksgiving service held at the F.D. Walker Pentecost Church in Sunyani over the weekend.

Alhaji Dr Bawumia said the service was to enable him to show appreciation to Go for his re-election as the NPP's Election 2028 flagbearer and pledged his determination to lead the party to political victory in the next General Election.

Alhaji Dr Bawumia expressed concern about what he described as a 'threat to freedom of expression' in the country alleging that: "Individuals who speak again the government face the risk of arrest and detention".

He indicated that such practice by the government threatened the nation's democracy and fundamental human rights and dignity of citizens.

Alhaji Dr Bawumia urged the members and supporters of the NPP to remain formidable and work tirelessly for the party to regain political power in the Election 2028.
