The Central Regional Minister, Hon. Ekow Panyin Okyere Eduamoah, has emphasized the need for accountability in the use of government funds allocated for the construction of development projects across the country.
He said government officials must be willing to account to the people for projects and programmes being undertaken with public funds, stressing that effective administration goes beyond sitting in offices.
The Minister made the remarks when he, together with the Cape Coast Mayor, Hon. George Justice Arthur and the Member of Parliament for Cape Coast North, Dr. Kwamena Minta Nyarku, embarked on a tour of projects in the Metropolis.
The tour formed part of efforts to inspect and engage communities on government projects, including the commissioning of a three-unit classroom block at Bessakrom.
Mr. Eduamoah explained that administration should not be limited to office work but must involve going into communities to interact with residents and enable them to know and appreciate the projects and programmes being implemented by government.
He noted that the people of Bessakrom had requested a Junior High School block to help provide an enabling environment for educating and nurturing pupils to become responsible and productive members of the community.
Meanwhile, the Cape Coast Metropolitan Assembly commenced construction of three-unit and six-unit classroom blocks at Christ Church Anglican Basic School at Adisadel of Cape Coast with the Metropolitan Chief Executive, Hon. George Justice Arthur, cutting the sod for the projects.
The Mayor indicated that the projects would include ancillary facilities such as headteacher's offices, staffrooms, storerooms and eight washrooms for each classroom block.
According to him, the two projects are estimated to cost approximately GH¢2.71 million.
At Bessakrom, the Member of Parliament for Cape Coast North, Dr. Kwamena Minta Nyarku, thanked his constituents for their support towards development projects in the area.
He encouraged teachers and pupils to work hard and take their education seriously, stressing that the success of the school would contribute to the development and future progress of the community.
