Cape Coast Mayor Charges Nkoko Nketenkete Beneficiaries to Manage Birds Efficiently to Enhance Set-up Offer by Gov't

The Cape Coast Metropolitan Chief Executive, Hon. George Justice Arthur, has urged the 200 beneficiaries of the government’s Nkoko Nketenkete program at Cape Coast South Constituency in the Central Region to treat the birds distributed to them as a real business and manage them efficiently for sustainable livelihoods.

Speaking at the distribution ceremony in Cape Coast, the Mayor said the initiative is part of government’s flagship program to reduce unemployment, and boost domestic poultry production.

“Government has set you up with an enterprise, manage it efficiently, keep good records, and grow it so it can benefit your families and the community,” the Mayor said.

The Mayor encouraged beneficiaries not to be discouraged but to focus on proper care for the remaining birds.

A total of 8,000 birds were distributed, with each of the 200 beneficiaries receiving 40 birds.

Officials noted that approximately 200 birds died due to challenges with mode of transportation and weather conditions during delivery.

The Metropolitan Director of Agriculture Department, Mrs.Olympia Williams, assured beneficiaries of technical support from her department.

She indicated that her officials will monitor and cooperate with the beneficiaries to ensure the success of this flagship program by the government by providing guidance on housing, feeding, vaccination and general management of the birds.

Mr. Sampson Ahiyayoh, Advisor to the Cape Coast South MP, Hon George Kweku Ricketts-Hagan, who represented him at the event, also urged the beneficiaries to manage the opportunity well.

He indicated that with resilience, opportunities will be availed in the constituency.
