Mr Abubakari Yakubu, the Sunyani East Communication Officer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) declared his intention to contest for the Bono Regional Communications Officer position of the party.
In an interview with Sompa FM, Mr Abubakari popularly known as in the political space as ‘Baba Amando” pledged to establish a lasting welfare scheme for the communicators in the region if given the nod.
Mr Yakubu gained national attention and spotlighted in the media space when he was arrested by the Cyber Security Unit of the Ghana Police Service for cyber related offences in April this year.
His arrest pushed supporters of the largest opposition NPP to undertake the “Yensuro Ahununu Demo” on the streets of Sunyani, the Bono Regional capital to register their displeasure about what they described as the “government sponsored attack on free speech and democracy”.
Mr Yakubu said the party in the region required the welfare to cater for the needs of the communicators as well as loyal members and supporters who had contributed in diverse ways in building the NPP and called on the party’s delegates to give him the nod.
