Mr Eric Adjei, the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP) has expressed empathy with cocoa farmers in the wake of the challenges confronting the nation’s cocoa sector.
Nonetheless, he assured that the government was working hard to reform the sector in the supreme interest of the nation.
Speaking on the Sunyani-based Sompa FM “Ade Akye Abia” morning show, hosted by Ama Konadu on Monday, Mr Adjei said it was unfortunate that some stakeholders were not extensive engaged in the reduction of the cocoa producer price.
He said stakeholder consultation remained crucial in decision making process, and urged the farmers to remain calm as the government do more to enhance their economic activities.
Mr Adjei attributed the present challenges in the cocoa sector to bad management of the previous administration alleging that since the NDC government assumed leadership, it had paid over GHC2 billion debt left in the cocoa sector.
He also spoke about the on-going reforms and the international market price index in the cocoa sector.
