The Sunyani East Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Vincent Antwi Agyei, has announced plans to dualise the stretch of road from the Sunyani Secondary School (SUSEC) to the Abesim SDA Junction as part of efforts to ease traffic congestion within the municipality.
According to the MCE, the proposed project will convert the existing road into a dual carriageway, allowing vehicles to move simultaneously in both directions and significantly improving traffic flow along the busy corridor.
Speaking on Sompa FM’s ‘Adea Akye Abia’ morning show with Kwasi Kyei Baffour (KKB), Mr. Antwi Agyei explained that the Municipal Assembly has already begun stakeholder engagements to ensure the smooth implementation of the project.
He disclosed that a meeting was held on Wednesday with traders and residents whose containers and temporary structures are located close to the road, particularly along the SUSEC–Abesim SDA Junction stretch and from Adomako Junction to Watchman.
“We are not just making promises. We have engaged those whose containers and temporary structures will be affected by the road expansion to explain our plans and the need for the project,” the MCE said.
He appealed for understanding and cooperation from affected persons, stressing that the exercise is not intended to deprive anyone of their livelihood but rather to promote the overall development of Sunyani.
“We are pleading with our mothers, fathers, sisters and brothers whose containers will be affected to understand that this is not because we do not care about them. The project is aimed at improving Sunyani and easing traffic congestion for all road users,” he added.
Mr. Antwi Agyei noted that the road expansion project has been in the planning stages for a long time and expressed gratitude that, by God’s grace, the government has now responded to the needs and concerns of residents by moving to implement it.
The dualisation of the road is expected to enhance transportation efficiency and support economic activities within the municipality once completed.
