The Deputy Majority Leader in parliament who doubles as Member of Parliament for Cape Coast South Constituency, Hon. George Ricketts-Hagan, has urged Assembly Members within his constituency to live an exemplary and honourable life, emphasizing integrity, accountability, and service to their people.
He made the call after donating 400 pieces of LED streetlights to the constituency, noting that public office holders must conduct themselves in ways that inspire confidence and trust among residents.
According to him, Assembly Members serve as the first point of contact between government and the people, and their actions both in public and private life should reflect and portray the values of leadership, transparency, commitment, and the life of an honourable person for community development.
The streetlight donation, he explained, forms part of efforts to enhance security, improve visibility, and promote economic activities within the constituency, especially at night.
He encouraged Assembly Members to see development projects not as personal achievements but as collective responsibilities aimed at improving the welfare of constituents.
Hon. George Ricketts-Hagan again seized the moment to warn Assembly Members who are fond of selling streetlights meant for improved security awareness within the constituency to desist from such act, having been privy to series of speculations to that effect.
"I promised the Assembly of streetlights which is intended to curtail the menace of darkness in the city.
I also advised again the selling of these bulbs which is to serve the people and not the interest of certain individuals."
Mayor for the Cape Coast Metropolitan Assembly, Hon. George Justice Arthur who on behalf of Assembly Members of Cape Coast South received the donated streetlights, relayed his utmost appreciation to the MP for his selfless dedication to the welfare of his constituents.
He outlined how the lights will be shared among Assembly Members within the 30 electoral areas of the constituency. Noting that each electoral area will for a start receive 10 streetlights to be fixed, for the remaining ones to be shared subsequently to Assembly Members who may be in need of additional streetlights.
"One of the challenges confronting the Assembly is inefficient lighting system. As I receive this, I will together with the Assembly Members distribute it to foster a good lighting system in the Metropolis."
