Mr Thomas Benarkuu, the Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the MIHOSO Foundation International has called on the government to re-think and pilot the execution of the 24-hour markets, nationwide.
MIHOSO is a Non-governmental Organisation (NGO) that commits to provide public health education, provision of consultancy services for hygiene and sanitation promotion, and consultancy services for sustainable rural water and sanitation.
The foundation further promotes social and organizational development intervention to communities through evidence-based research, advocacy, training, sharing of resources, and the provision of livelihood empowerment programs to target women, youth, and children.
Mr Benarkuu lauded the 24-hour market, describing the government's initiative as key interventions that would spur economic growth, wealth creation and poverty reduction.
However, he told Sompa FM in an interview in Sunyani that it would be financially prudent if the government would pilot the construction of the markets, beginning from the various regional capitals.
Mr Benarkuu explained that through its Social Audit Committees (SACS) established in some of the Districts and Municipalities, the foundation had realized that the nation would not derive the optimum benefits, if the government constructed 24hour market projects at some of the MMDAs.
