Mr Atta Kwasi Senior Dognekoh, the Presiding Member of the Sunyani West Municipal Assembly has commended MIHOSO International Foundation (MIHOSO) and its partners for helping to deepen accountability and local governance in the area.
He said the implementation of MIHOSO’s “Social Accountability for Resilient Democracy” (SARD) project in the municipality was making useful impacts, strengthening decision making process and advancing grassroots democracy and local governance.
MIHOSO, an NGO working to improve the welfare of the vulnerable is executing the project under the GIZ’s Participation, Accountability, And Integrity for a Resilient Democracy (PAIReD) programme. It is commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and co-funded by the European Union (EU) and the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Cooperation (SECO).
Speaking in an interview with Sompa FM on the sidelines of a social accountability forum on the project implementation at Odomase, the municipal capital, Mr Dognekoh noted that the project execution had deepen the understanding of the community members on the need for them to contribute in decision making process helping to improve revenue mobilization of the assembly.
The forum was attended by attended by representatives from faith-based organisations, government agencies and departments, market women and women groups, and traders and traditional authorities.
In a highlight, Mr Thomas Benarkuu, the Deputy Chief Executive Officer of MIHOSO in-charge of Operations said the project sought to strengthen the capacities of public institutions, to effectively implement citizen-oriented, trustworthy and accountable governance.
He said the project sought further to increase accountability and transparency of local government institutions and being implemented in Sunyani West Municipal and Dormaa West District of the Bono as well as Tano North Municipal, Asutifi North and Asunafo South District of the Ahafo Regions.
