The Sunyani St Anselm’s Anglican Child and Youth Development Center (CYDC) at the weekend observed the Ghana Month, with the students and pupils, calling for the need to preserve tradition and culture for younger and unborn generations.
Mostly between the ages of nine and 13 years, the school children showcased brilliant cultural performances, drama, poetry recitals and used drumming, dancing and drum language to highlight the typical Ghanaian tradition and culture.
Conversations on their cultural performances and theater displays centered on the consequences of youth moral decadence manifested in growing disrespect for the elderly, indecent dressing and acts of lawlessness.
Observed every March, Ghana Month also known as Heritage Month serves as a period for reflection on the nation’s history and independence as well as promoting the diverse traditions that define Ghanaian society.
Speaking to Sompa FM, Mr Duodu Bimpong, the Director of the St Anselm's Anglican CYDC said the Center held the event annually to imbibe the school children with the spirit of patriotism.
Besides, he underlined the need to culturally, traditionally and spiritually bring up the children in a responsible manner to enable them to grow to become national assets, inculcating in them customs and norms that portrayed the true identity of Ghanaians.
As part of the celebration, the Centre organised a free health screening exercise, with Madam Esther Ndamanie, a at the Sunyani Municipal Directorate of Health urging general public to reduce the intake of sugar and salt to live longer lives.
