The Ghana Police Service has arrested a 40-year-old man in connection with an alleged defilement case involving a nine-year-old girl at Oyarifa.
According to a press release issued by the Accra Regional Public Affairs Unit on March 19, 2026, the suspect, Pastor Paul Kofi Annan, was picked up by the Oyarifa District Police Command following a complaint lodged by the victim’s family.
Police say preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect, who is the stepfather of the victim, had been cohabiting with the child’s mother since 2023 and formally married her in February 2026.
The victim reportedly disclosed the alleged abuse to her grandfather during a visit to Cape Coast, stating that the incidents had occurred over a period of about three years.
Investigators further revealed that the suspect allegedly threatened the victim to prevent her from reporting the incidents.
The police confirmed that the suspect has been cautioned and is currently in custody assisting with ongoing investigations.
The Accra Regional Police Command reiterated its commitment to protecting children and urged parents and guardians to promptly report any suspected abuse or threats to ensure swift intervention.
