A devastating fire has completely destroyed the Ajumako Ocheso Police Station in the Ajumako Enyan Essiam District of the Central Region.
Eyewitnesses reported seeing thick smoke and flames in broad daylight following an alleged power outage. Residents quickly rushed to the scene but found the building already engulfed in flames.
Firefighters from the district command, led by District Fire Officer DO2 Kingsley Yeboah, battled the blaze for nearly three hours before bringing it under control due to its intensity.
Fortunately, no casualties or injuries were recorded, as officers on duty evacuated safely. However, none of their personal belongings were salvaged from the building.
Speaking in an interview with Sompa News’ reporter, Kweku Ademah, DO2 Kingsley Yeboah indicated that a power outage, possibly caused by a “light-off” power surge, could have triggered the fire. He noted that investigations by the Ghana National Fire Service and the Police are ongoing to determine the exact cause.
He also emphasized the need for public institutions to keep fire extinguishers readily available to help control such incidents in their early stages.
Police from the Ajumako Enyan Essiam District and the Central Regional Command have since visited the scene, but no official findings have been released yet.
Authorities say the building has been completely destroyed and is beyond repair, calling for the construction of a new police station to restore operations in the area.
