The Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) Committee of Aggrey Memorial A.M.E. Zion Senior High School in the Central Region has formally demanded an apology and retraction from the Kotokuraba Police Station in Cape Coast following what it describes as an utterly false publication concerning the alleged assault on an Adisadel College student by a group of Aggrey Memorial pupils during an inter-school soccer competition in Cape Coast.
The PTA leadership insists that the police communication circulating in the public domain misrepresented the facts surrounding the incident and has consequently tarnished the image and reputation of the students in question as well as Aggrey Memorial Senior High School.
In a press statement delivered on Monday, March 9, 2026, by the PTA Chairman, Mr. Omar Bin Abdullah at the school premises, the association expressed strong dissatisfaction with the police report, arguing that the publication presented inaccurate information about the circumstances leading to the alleged altercation between the students of the two schools, as the approach by the police turns to violate the law as well.
According to the PTA Chairman, the information released has caused unnecessary public backlash and negative perception towards the school and its students, amid the school's uphold commitment to discipline and ethical conduct among its students.
He stressed that on 20th February, 2026, some six (6) Aggrey students left the Cape Coast Sports Stadium to the school after the soccer competition, only to be confronted by a group of Adisadel College students who challenged them to fight. An exchange of stones ensued, after which additional Adisadel College students, armed with baseball bats, cutlasses, and other sharp objects joined the confrontation.
Mr. Omar argued that the Aggrey students were over powered and fled for safety. Yet, the Adisadel College students pursued their chase until a Fire Officer in a moving vehicle directed the Aggrey students to proceed to the Regional Fire Station at Pedu for protection, where later the school's Senior House Master and the Assistant were contacted to transport the students to the Kotokuraba Police Station to assist with police investigations.
"The Adisadel College student named, Rexford Owusu-Ansah never lodged a complaint at the Kotokuraba Police Station or any other police station, alleging his attack by Aggrey Memorial students, likewise authorities of Aggrey Memorial AME Zion also reporting an attack and assault on the said Adisadel student."
"We hereby state that the six (6) students from Aggrey Memorial were not arrested by any police officer, neither did they attack and assaulted Rexford Owusu-Ansah, as no Aggrey student was arrested and accused of attacking the Adisadel student and thus state that the press release by the Ghana Police Service is false and therefore request that this accurate account be considered to correct any misrepresentation in the original press release," Mr. Omar remarked.
Alhaji Adam Abdul-Basit, the Aggrey Memorial PTA Secretary on his account condemned the work carried out by the Kotokuraba police, putting into account the publication of names of the Aggrey students who by law are minors and shouldn't have their identity published. An action he lamented could have a negative effect on these students in years to come.
He, however, charged the police department for an unqualified apology and further take necessary steps to delete the names of the students from all their records.
