The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has directed an immediate investigation into allegations circulating in a viral video that claim some police personnel were involved in the unauthorized withdrawal of GH₵400,000 from a mobile money agent’s account in Kibi.
The directive tasks the Police Professional Standards Bureau (PPSB) of the Ghana Police Service to thoroughly investigate the claims captured in the widely shared video.
According to police authorities, the alleged victim, a mobile money agent has been contacted and is currently assisting investigators with relevant information to facilitate the probe.
The investigation follows public concern sparked by the viral footage, which suggests that some officers may have been involved in the alleged unauthorized withdrawal of funds amounting to GH₵400,000 from the agent’s mobile money account.
Police authorities say the move is part of efforts to ensure accountability and transparency within the service while upholding public confidence in law enforcement.
“The victim has since been contacted and is assisting the investigation,” a statement from the police said.
The Police Administration has assured the public that the outcome of the investigation will be communicated once the process is concluded.
The Ghana Police Service further reiterated its commitment to professionalism and urged the public to remain calm while the investigation is ongoing.
