The Tarkwa Nsueam Municipal Assembly has announced that this year’s 69th Independence Day celebrations will be held without the customary school parades and mass marches, marking a notable departure from the Municipality’s long-standing traditions.
In a public notice, the Assembly explained that the decision was made following careful consideration of local arrangements and logistical challenges associated with this year’s programme.
For decades, Independence Day celebrations in Tarkwa Nsueam have been distinguished by colorful parades involving pupils and students from basic and senior high schools, as well as displays by cadet corps and other organised groups.
Speaking on the decision in a public notice, the Assembly said, “while we will not have the traditional school parade this year, our commitment to celebrating Ghana’s independence in a dignified and meaningful way remains unwavering. We are exploring alternative activities that will allow our community to come together in honour of this historic day.”
Meanwhile, Officials stated that details of the revised programme will be announced in due course therefore, residents have been advised to stay updated with official communications from the Assembly.
Authorities emphasized that the spirit of independence, unity, and national pride will remain central to this year’s celebration despite changes to the traditional format.
