Wenchi Municipality has been identified as having the third-highest HIV prevalence rate in the Bono Region, according to data released by the Ghana AIDS Commission.
The report revealed that 2,153 residents are living with HIV and AIDS, representing a 2.5 percent prevalence rate in the municipality.
This disclosure was made by Mr. George Agyemang, Acting Director of the Wenchi Municipal Health Directorate, during the annual health performance review held in Wenchi.
Commenting on the situation, Mr. Agyemang said, “the high prevalence rate in our municipality is a wake-up call. Couples must remain faithful, and unmarried individuals should always use protection. Prevention is the most effective tool we have against the spread of HIV.”
He further noted that the municipality has also recorded a 11 percent incidence of tuberculosis cases, highlighting the need for continuous health interventions in the area.
The annual review, conducted under the theme “Efforts in Achieving Universal Health Coverage,” brought together stakeholders to assess progress and strategize on improving health outcomes in the municipality.
