Police at Atebubu in the Bono East Region are investigating the tragic murder of Nana Serwaa Gyan Kumah Kyere, the Queen-mother of Abamba, a farming community in the Atebubu/Amantin Municipality.

‎The late queen-mother, operator of the ‘Ohemaa’s Kitchen’ a popular food and drinking spot at Atebubu was shot dead by unknown assailants at her private residence at Atebubu on Wednesday February 25, 2026 around 2300hours.

‎A police source confirmed the incident saying that police had since picked and deposited the body at the Atebubu Government Hospital mortuary for preservation and autopsy as investigations continued.

‎During a visit to the scene, Sompa FM gathered from residents around the nieghbourhood that they heard some gunshot from the queen-mother’s residence.

‎Police discovered that the queen-mother was shot on the leg with other gunshot wounds in the abdomen when they retrieved the lifeless body.

‎News about the murder of the queen-mother had since spread like a wildfire in the area as it remained the topical issue in the town.
