The Chaplain of Bechem Presbyterian Senior High School (PRESEC), Rev. Gilbert Ntow Asare, has invited all past students and their families to join the school’s 60th anniversary celebration scheduled for Saturday, February 28, 2026.
According to Rev. Asare, the milestone event is open to everyone who has attended the school, as well as their children and relatives, to come together and support the institution as it marks six decades of existence.
“We want everyone who has a connection with Bechem PRESEC to come and celebrate this historic milestone with us,” Rev. Asare said. “It’s not just about looking back, but also about inspiring future generations to carry on the legacy of excellence that our school represents.”
Speaking ahead of the event on Sompa FM ‘Adea Akye Abia’ morning show with the host, Ama Konadu, Rev. Ntow Asare disclosed that Bechem Presbyterian Senior High School was established on February 23, 1966, following discussions between the late chief of Bechem, Nana Fosu Gyiabour the first (I) and Ghana’s first President, Kwame Nkrumah.
Rev. Asare explained that after the conversation, Dr. Nkrumah decided to set up the school to serve the people of Bechem and surrounding communities.
However, just a day after the school was founded, on February 24, 1966, Dr. Nkrumah was overthrown in a coup d’état.
The political change affected the newly established institution, causing setbacks in its early stages. Subsequently, the Presbyterian Church of Ghana took over the management of the school and has overseen its operations to date.
The anniversary is expected to bring together generations of old students, staff, and stakeholders to celebrate the school’s history, achievements, and continued impact on education in the Bechem area.
However, the Senior Housemaster Emmanuel Kwako Ampofo confirmed that preparations are underway to ensure a successful celebration on Saturday.
“We’re preparing for everyone,” he said, assuring guests and alumni of a well-organized event.
