Aggass Company Limited, a sub-contractor of Ahafo North Mine of Newmont Ghana Gold Limited has commenced the construction of GH¢700,000 market square for market women and petty traders at Ntotroso a mining community in the Asutifi North District of the Ahafo Region.
During an inspection visit to the project site, Mr Yakubu Garson, the Chief Executive Officer of Aggass Company Limited told the media that project followed an appeal by the chiefs and people of the area.
He said that the construction of the standard market project commenced after Nana Barima Twereku Ampem III, the Paramount Chief of Ntrotroso Traditional Area approached him for support.
“We decided to put up the market as part of our Corporate Social Responsibility programme to give back to the Ntotroso community and the adjoining settlements where we operate”, Mr Garson explained.
Mr Bright Agyenim Boateng, the Assembly Member for the Apentuase Electoral Area thanked the company for the project, worrying that the old market situated along the road endangered the lives of the market women, traders and buyers.
He noted that on completion the project would open up the area, spur rapid socio-economic growth and development as well as enhance the livelihoods of the people and called on Newmont to award more contracts to the company.
