Cocoa farmers in the country, particularly those within the Twifo Praso and Jukwa Districts in the Central Region have been charged to utilize media platforms to bring attention to their challenges and advocate for solutions.
Farmers have been challenged that leveraging on the media, they can amplify their voices, raise awareness about issues affecting their livelihoods, and push for policy changes and support.
Mrs. Harriet Nuamah Agyemang, the Country Director for SEND GHANA, made this assertion at a day's workshop for about 20 cocoa farmers of the Twifo Praso and Jukwa Districts in the Central Region, at the Sasakawa Conference Centre at the University of Cape Coast (UCC) on Thursday, November 19, 2025.
The engagement sort to find lasting solution to issues confronting cocoa farmers in the Region for improved productivity.
This call to action is driven by the need to increase Ghana's cocoa productivity, echo awareness on issues affecting the country's cocoa industry and also promote sustainable farming practices.
The Country Director for SEND GHANA in an engagement with Sompa TV's Eric Annan, elaborated that by engaging with the media, cocoa farmers can effectively communicate their needs and work towards sustainable solutions for a better Ghana, considering the enormous contribution cocoa has over the years offered to the country's economy.
She further appealed on all and sundry to effectively play their role for a sustainable advancement of the country's cocoa industry, particularly at a period where illegal mining (galamsey) is having adverse effect on Ghana's cocoa production.
The workshop offered cocoa farmers the platform for media coverage for increased visibility on their struggles and successes, arouse the media's drive for policy discussions and action as well as connect farmers to consumers and stakeholders through community engagements.
