The Bono Regional Police Command has arrested one kingpin, Evans Ameyaw, aged 25 at Buoko near Chiraa for possession of stolen items and Narcotic Drugs.
The arrest followed receipt of credible information about criminal activities in dealing with the sale of stolen motorcycles and tricycles in the area.
“An intelligence-led operation conducted by a team from the Regional Police Intelligence Directorate (PID) led to the arrest of the suspect on Thursday October 23 at Buoko, near Chiraa, in the Wenchi Municipality of the Bono Region”, a statement signed by the Bono regional Police PRO Chief Inspector Thomas Akeelah said.
The statement added that, during interrogation, the suspect admitted to collaborating with others in perpetrating this crime. A search by the police in his room led to the retrieval of four motorbikes, two tricycles, and seven compressed slabs of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp.
All the aforementioned exhibits, according to the Police have been retained for evidential purposes. Stringent efforts are underway to apprehend other suspects involved in the syndicate.
The suspect is currently in Police custody and is assisting with investigation particularly in tracing the owners of the stolen properties to restore ownership. Meanwhile, efforts are underway to prepare the case for prosecution.
