The Bono Regional Police Command says it has commenced investigations into a fire outbreak and the death of a couple at New Dormaa Asuakwaa, a suburb of the Sunyani East Municipality.
A statement signed by Chief Inspector Thomas Akeelah, the Public Relations Officer of the Bono regional Police Command said the service received a distress call on 20th October 2025 and promptly proceeded to the scene where personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service were already working to extinguish the blaze.
“The victims, identified as Nana Ameyaw Ampofo, aged 65, and Grace Adu Boafoawaa, aged 49, were found burnt beyond recognition. A crime scene management team conducted an assessment and discovered that the building and its contents had been completely destroyed. Two bodies were recovered from the kitchen area, while a Toyota Highlander and a pickup vehicle parked nearby were partially damaged”, the statement added.
The bodies of the deceased have been conveyed to the Sunyani Teaching Hospital mortuary for preservation and autopsy.
The Bono Regional Police Command is working closely with the Ghana National Fire Service to determine the cause of the fire and assures the public of updates as investigations progress.
The fire incident left residents in a state of shock and disbelief as it remained the topical issue in the area, as Sompa FM noticed scores of people gathered in groups during a visit to the scene on Monday.
The inferno occurred around 2300 hours, Sunday October 19, 2025 during a downpour that hit parts of the Municipality, Sompa FM learnt.
However, other occupants of the house managed to escape unhurt. The cause of the fire remains unknown for now.
The Bono regional Public Relations Officer of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) Assistant Divisional Officer Grade One (ADO1), Kwame Adomako, told Sompa FM the command received a distress call from a fire officer, however, when the fire fighters got to the scene, the inferno had reached dangerous dimensions.
