The Techiman South Municipal Directorate of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) has undertaken a risk reduction exercise across the municipality, targeting structurally and environmentally vulnerable locations.
At Hausaline, officials identified a dilapidated building located behind the Holy Family Hospital as a major safety threat.
The structure, which exhibits visible fissures and stress cracks in key load-bearing components, poses significant danger to both residents and pedestrians.
Speaking in an interview with Obaapa Nana Yaa Kaakyire, the Techiman South NADMO Director, Daniel Mensah, revealed that the property owners had ignored directives from the Municipal Assembly to suspend renovation works.
He described the situation as unfortunate, stressing that NADMO would not hesitate to take decisive action to safeguard lives and property.
"We have repeatedly advised the building owners to halt renovations until proper safety inspections are carried out. Their refusal puts everyone around the site at serious risk," Mr. Mensah stated.
Meanwhile, at Wangraline, NADMO officials raised concerns over a flood-prone zone near the Atweredaa River natural bridge.
According to Mr. Mensah, a developer has only completed the foundation of a building at the site, leaving it highly exposed to flooding risks.
"This incomplete structure is extremely vulnerable to floodwaters, especially during the rainy season. We urge all developers to follow proper building guidelines to prevent disasters," he warned.
The exercise forms part of NADMO’s ongoing efforts to identify potential hazards and implement preventive measures to mitigate disasters within the municipality.
