Wan-Hive Ghana, NGO, in collaboration with KGL Foundation has launched the “SportHer” project aimed at encouraging young girls to participate in various sporting disciplines.
Speaking a ceremony held at the Kyem Amponsah Senior High School at Fiapre in the Sunyani West Municipality, Miss Janat Issifu, the Chief Executive Officer of Wan-Hive Ghana, said the project sough to increase female participation in sports.

By so doing, he said the growing misconception about girls’ involvement in sporting activities would be addressed.
Ms Issifu said it was untrue that girls who engage in active sports did not perform well academically or behave responsibly, saying that the project was presently being implemented in six senior high schools with 40 girls selected from each of the schools for training.

The comprise Wamanafo Senior High Technical School, Mansen Senior High School, Salvation Army Senior High School, Koase Senior High School, Wenchi Methodist Senior High School, and Kyem Amponsah Senior High School.
Ms Issifu said the beneficiaries would undergo training in volleyball, basketball, and karate with sporting equipment and training materials readily available for their training.

Nana Doyina Kusi II Krontihene of the Fiapre Traditional Auhtority advised the students to take advantage of the opportunity and to develop their talents and pursue sports as lifer career as well.

Some beneficiaries who had previously participated in the SportHer initiative thanked the organisers the opportunity to help unearth, nurture and build on their talents.
