Black Stars captain Andre Ayew has paid a visit to the Black Queens at their base, showing solidarity with the team amid their ongoing dispute over unpaid bonuses.
Ayew visited the players at the Erata Hotel on Monday, where he offered words of encouragement and support ahead of their Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) second-leg qualifier against Egypt on Tuesday at the Accra Sports Stadium.
The visit comes at a crucial time for the Queens, who recently threatened to boycott the match over delays in receiving $9,500 each, their bonuses for finishing third at the 2025 WAFCON tournament in Morocco. The players boycotted training over the weekend before agreeing to resume following interventions from Sports Minister Kofi Adams and GFA President Kurt Okraku.
The standoff reached the Presidency, which issued a direct order for the payments to be made, with processes currently underway to release the funds. The team is scheduled to train at 5 pm on Monday as they prepare to defend a 3-0 first-leg lead from Ismailia.
