Member of Parliament for South Dayi, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, has urged that Ghana’s next generation of Black Stars be constructed around players from the University for Development Studies (UDS) football team following their unprecedented success on the international stage.

He believes the Tamale-based university side has proven its calibre and now merits forming the backbone of the country’s senior national team in the near future.

“A big congratulations to the University of Development Studies for this remarkable achievement,” Dafeamekpor stated.

“You have indeed brought honour and dignity to Ghana once more. I suggest we constitute our immediate future Black Stars from the nucleus of this fantastic UDS Soccer Team.”

The lawmaker’s remarks come after UDS wrote a golden chapter in African university football by lifting the FISU World University Games football title for the first time.

Representing both Ghana and Africa, UDS defeated Paulista University of Brazil 2-1 in the final, capping an inspiring run that stunned top opposition.

Gabriel Viera opened the scoring for the Brazilians just 30 seconds into the match, but UDS responded with resilience.

Captain Mohammed Sulemana levelled deep into stoppage time before Ezedeen Alhassan sealed the comeback in extra time, curling a spectacular corner straight into the net to secure victory and trigger wild celebrations.
