Expose Drug Dealers for Arrest; We Know Them – 1st Deputy National Imam Urges Public to Act
The First Deputy National Imam of Ahlussunna Wal-Jama’a, Sheikh Mohammed Khamil Mohammed, has appealed on the public to expose individuals involved in the sale and distribution of illicit drugs to enable security agencies to arrest and prosecute them.
He said the fight against drug abuse will not yield the desired results if attention is focused solely on consumers while those supplying the substances continue to operate within communities.
Sheikh Mohammed Khamil Mohammed made the appeal during a two-day tour in the Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrem (KEEA) Municipality in the Central Region.
He observed that only a few individuals are benefiting from the proceeds of the drug trade while many young people suffer its consequences thereof.
He therefore urged the public not to shield drug dealers, even when they are close relatives, stressing that the future of children and the wellbeing of society must take precedence over personal relationships.
The First Deputy National Imam called on community members to cooperate with security agencies by providing credible information that could lead to the arrest of suspected drug dealers.
He further advised the youth to fear Allah and demonstrate good behaviour, describing discipline and righteous conduct as essential values for becoming responsible and productive members of society.
Meanwhile, the Second Deputy National Imam of Ahlussunna Wal-Jama’a, Sheikh Mohammed Amin Osman, called for intensified education on the authentic teachings of Islam to preserve the religion's original message for future generations.
He expressed concern that some people have embraced practices and perceptions that do not reflect the fundamental teachings of Islam.
According to him, Islam is not defined by mere perceptions, dancing or the names people associate themselves with, but by adherence to the revelations received by Prophet Mohammed from Allah.
Sheikh Mohammed Amin Osman stressed that education must be prioritised to equip the youth with a proper understanding of the religion and protect them from misleading teachings.
For his part, the Municipal Police Commander for KEEA, DSP Edmund Agyekum, rejected the perception that social vices are exclusively associated with Muslims, noting that many Muslims occupy prestigious positions across the world.
He called on parents, religious leaders and community members to prioritise the education of children as a means of securing a better future for them.
DSP Agyekum also appealed to influential individuals to allow the police to perform their duties without interference, particularly in cases involving serious offences such as rape.
He expressed concern that some influential personalities allegedly frustrate police investigations and law-enforcement efforts when individuals facing allegations of wrongdoing are connected to them.
The Municipal Police Commander further cautioned the youth against the pursuit of quick wealth, particularly through alleged ritual practices, warning that such attempts on enrichment can have serious consequences.
