President John Dramani Mahama has fulfilled his pledge to support the Ghana Medical Trust Fund (MahamaCares) by donating six months of his basic salary to the initiative aimed at assisting Ghanaians with specialist medical needs.

Sighted on Official Facebook page of Jubilee House, the President also led government appointees to contribute one month of their basic salaries to the Fund, bringing the total donation to GHS 6,102,737.80.

The cheque was officially presented to the Ghana Medical Trust Fund on Monday by the Deputy Chief of Staff (Administration), Nana Oye Bampoe Addo.

Receiving the donation, the Administrator of the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, Adjoa Obuobia Darko-Opoku, expressed gratitude to the President and government appointees for the contribution, describing it as a demonstration of commitment to supporting citizens who require specialist healthcare services.

She said the donation would go a long way in helping the Fund achieve its objective of providing financial assistance to patients facing serious medical conditions and high treatment costs.

Speaking during the presentation, Nana Oye Bampoe Addo reiterated the government's commitment to improving access to healthcare and supporting vulnerable citizens battling serious illnesses.

She also called on individuals, corporate institutions and other organisations to contribute to the Fund to ensure its sustainability and enable it to support more Ghanaians in need of specialist medical care.

The Ghana Medical Trust Fund, popularly known as MahamaCares, was established to provide financial support for the treatment of critical illnesses and reduce the burden of healthcare costs on affected individuals and families.
