The New Patriotic Party’s polling station elections in the Afigya Sekyere East Constituency in the Ashanti Region have been halted after a court placed an injunction on the exercise.
The move follows a petition filed by Mr. Adu Mensah, the Polling Station Coordinator for the Dome Electoral Area, who cited irregularities in the conduct of the elections.
According to Mr. Mensah, the process was not free and fair, alleging that the album to be used for the election was not properly compiled and that several aspirants had been unfairly removed from it.
He argued that the procedures outlined for the election were not followed, undermining the credibility of the exercise.
The court’s intervention means the elections in the constituency cannot proceed until the party addresses the concerns raised and puts proper measures in place.
Mr. Mensah stated that the injunction would remain until the party leadership ensures transparency and fairness in the process.
Party officials are yet to comment publicly on the court’s decision, but the development is expected to delay the internal elections in the affected electoral areas.
