President John Dramani Mahama has commissioned a state-of-the-art PET Scan facility at the Swedish Ghana Medical Centre, describing it as a major step toward achieving world-class healthcare delivery and medical sovereignty in Ghana.
According to a post sighted on the official Facebook page of Jubilee House, President Mahama said the advanced diagnostic centre would significantly improve early cancer detection and treatment outcomes while reducing the need for Ghanaians to travel abroad for specialist medical care.
“This facility marks a major milestone in Ghana’s journey towards world-class healthcare delivery and medical sovereignty,” the President stated.
He added that the facility positions Ghana to become a future medical hub for the West African sub-region.
The President further announced a number of major interventions in the areas of healthcare, education and housing as part of the government’s broader development agenda.
These interventions include the construction of new regional hospitals, the establishment of additional CAT labs, teacher housing projects and the implementation of the 300 million-dollar STARR-J initiative aimed at ending the double-track system by 2027.
President Mahama also stressed the importance of investing in quality healthcare and education.
“Quality healthcare, teacher welfare and education remain central to Ghana’s national development agenda,” he said.
He, therefore, commended the Ghana National Association of Teachers and the management of the Swedish Ghana Medical Centre for what he described as a visionary investment in Ghana’s healthcare sector.
