President John Dramani Mahama has called on African countries to move away from fragmented approaches and unite governments, the private sector, and international partners to build resilient healthcare systems across the continent.

‎Posting on X after participating in the Africa Forward Summit in Nairobi, where he co-chaired a session on “Rethinking Global Health and Building Resilient National Health Systems,” President Mahama stressed that achieving health sovereignty in Africa would require stronger collaboration and coordinated action.

‎“We must move away from fragmentation and bring everyone, including the state parties, the private sector, and international partners, into the same boat,” he stated.

‎The President noted that Africa’s progress in healthcare delivery continues to be hindered by heavy debt burdens, which reduce governments’ ability to invest in essential sectors.

‎“When a nation spends 50 per cent of its revenue on debt servicing, the capacity to invest in health, education, and agriculture is severely diminished,” he said.

‎President Mahama explained that the “Accra Reset” initiative was established to create a unified African compact focused on delivering practical and measurable outcomes for citizens across the continent.

‎According to him, the initiative is designed to encourage strategic cooperation rather than isolationism.

‎“The Accra Reset is not about isolationism; it is about working more effectively and strategically with our partners to ensure that our health systems are resilient and our people are protected,” he added.

‎The Africa Forward Summit brought together African leaders, policymakers, development partners, and health experts to discuss sustainable development, economic transformation, and healthcare resilience across Africa.
