The Central Regional Minister, Hon. Ekow Okyere Eduamoah Panyin, has urged the Information Service Department (ISD) in the region to adopt a rational medium for the dissemination of information to the people than using government assets for parochial interest.
Speaking at the handing over of three (3) new digital information vans to the department at the Regional Coordinating Council on Thursday, offered by President Mahama, the Minister stressed that information delivery is very important, therefore, it must go beyond only showing of videos but must collaborate with other agencies such as the agric, education, among others to inform the public about the initiatives of the government and how they are being implemented.
The Minister noted that the vans are intended for the circulation of information, hence any activity aside that forfeit its purpose, since it's rumoured that some individuals often use such assets for personal things like carrying of building cement, foodstuffs and others.
“We must act to maintain these vans and make sure that they are used for propagating only information from government to the general public for fair administration," the Minister emphasized.
He called for intensified efforts in public education and awareness creation, strengthened institutional relationship and proper care. This, he said, would enhance coordination and ensure faster, more effective responses.
This concerns raised was to address the gab in the information delivery to people through traditional form since it has faced challenges with regards to pictorial and videos to depict the information shared among the people in the Region.
The Central Regional Director for the Information Service Department, Lilly Bempong Esq, took the charge and accepted the call to maintain these vans in good faith.
She noted that the department has zone the Central Region into three parts, as each information van will operate in one zone.
Madam Bempong emphasized that the MMDAs and other government agencies who will request for their services will be levied for the purposes of fueling and maintenance of these vehicles.
She further stated that for security and achievement of the department's objectives sake, each van has a digital tracker to inform them of the location of the van.
