In enhancing digital accessibility and education the government has announced plans to initiate the distribution of a six thousand five hundred laptops as part of the first phase of its comprehensive national digital programme, aimed at bridging the technological divide and fostering a digitally inclusive society.
In a press conference today, the Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovation, Hon. Sam Nartey George, elaborated on the exciting launch of a nationwide rollout of a pioneering learning programme that is scheduled to kick off on May 1st.

This event will mark a pivotal first phase of implementation, with the initiative set to unfold across the diverse landscapes of the entire country.
Hon. Sam George further stated that this initial phase is strategically designed to establish a total of one hundred and thirty learning centers, which will be carefully distributed across all sixteen regions of Ghana.

He emphasized the commitment to ensuring that each region benefits from this transformative initiative, with varying allocations of learning centers based on specific regional needs and population density.
He noted that, the Greater Accra Region, which is known for its high urban population, will benefit the most, receiving a substantial allocation of twenty-four centers.

He added that the Northern Region and the Upper East Region, both set to receive eleven centers each, reflecting the government's focus on promoting equity in educational access.
Additional allocations will see the Ashanti Region equipped with four centers, while the Bono Region will gain three. The Bono East Region is slated to have seven centers, the Central Region will be awarded eight, and the Eastern Region will host nine centers, showcasing the government's commitment to holistic regional representation.
The North East Region is also recognized, with plans to establish three centers, while the Oti Region will receive four, and both the Savannah and Upper West Regions will each have seven centers.

The Volta Region is set to host fourteen centers, the Western Region will benefit from nine centers, and the Western North Region is allocated five, culminating in a total of one hundred and thirty well-distributed learning centers throughout the nation.
Moreover, in a progressive and inclusive approach, each learning center will be furnished with fifty laptops that will facilitate comprehensive training and enhance digital access for learners, ensuring that they are well-equipped to navigate the digital landscape.
Hon. Sam George also reiterated the government’s commitment to inclusivity, highlighting that individuals with disabilities who possess a passion for technology will not be marginalized, but rather actively encouraged to participate in this innovative technology initiative, thereby fostering a sense of belonging and opportunity for all citizens in the digital age.
