President John Dramani Mahama has returned to Ghana from an official trip to France and will preside over an emergency Cabinet meeting on Thursday, April 9, to address the recent surge in fuel prices.

The meeting is expected to explore measures to mitigate the impact on households and businesses, amid rising petroleum costs linked to heightened tensions in the Middle East.

Sources within government told Channel One News that President Mahama is pushing for swift interventions to cushion Ghanaians from the economic strain caused by the price increases.

Fuel prices in Ghana rose sharply from April 1, 2026, with petrol up about 15% to GH¢13.30 per litre and diesel rising roughly 19% to GH¢17.10 per litre for the April 1–15 pricing window, according to the National Petroleum Authority.
