The Komenda Sugar Factory, a long-abandoned project, has sustained series of debates from different government administrations in the public over the years.
The aim to get the factory operationalized, to create much-needed jobs in the community of Komenda has drawn the Member of Parliament for Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrem (KEEA) Constituency in the Central Region, Hon. Samuel Atta Mills to disclose that himself and other stakeholders are in preparation to see to the operationalization of the factory.
"The government is poised to make Komenda Sugar factory work again," he said, reiterating that "plans are underway to address the factory's infrastructure and logistical challenges in the next two weeks."
He further emphasized that the government is prepared to create employment for the people of Ghana, particularly those in the KEEA municipality.
The factory's revival is expected to boost the local economy and provide ove 7,500 direct and indirect job opportunities.
Hon. Mills made this statement at Kissi-Kyiase in the Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrem Constituency as himself, the MCE and a host of Assembly members donated foodstuffs ranging from bags of rice, cooking oil, sugar and many more to Muslims in the area.
The MCE, Ismail Zagoon Saeed expressed joy for the kind gesture himself and the MP have been able to offer to the Muslim community in KEEA.
Hon. Zagoon having come to terms with the poor lightening system of Kissi-Kyiase, promised to fix the area's confronted challenge in the shortest possible time, as he noted have contacted ECG who explained to him that twelve light poles (12) will be needed to fix the area's lightening issues.
Chief Imam for KEEA, Sheikh Yahaya Shafiq Abdul Rahman, expressed appreciation towards the honour done the Muslim community, but required of the MP for education and security support as well as scholarships for the Muslim youths to ensure a well defined Zongo communities within the municipality.
