The Member of Parliament for Ayawaso East, Baba Jamal, has officially handed over his duties at Ghana’s High Commission in Nigeria following his election to Parliament.
Mr. Jamal stepped down from his role at the High Commission to contest the Ayawaso East parliamentary seat after the death of the sitting MP, Mahama Naser Toure, who passed away after a short illness.
He won and was sworn in as the MP for the constituency.
In a statement announcing his transition on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, he confirmed that he has completed the handover process to the Deputy Head of Mission.
“I have officially handed over to the Deputy Head of Mission at the Nigerian High Commission. I am deeply grateful to H.E. John Dramani Mahama for the opportunity to serve, and I am honoured to have worked with the remarkable team at the High Commission,” he said.
Mr Jamal also expressed optimism about his new role as a legislator and appreciation to his supporters.
“I wish my successor every success in this role, and I sincerely appreciate your support and prayers as I begin my new role as Member of Parliament for the Ayawaso East Constituency,” he added.
