The Bono Regional Minister,Joseph Addae Akwaboah (ESQ), has outlined ongoing government interventions aimed at addressing the unemployment issue through skills development and job creation in the Bono Region and the country at large.
Speaking in an interview with ABY on ‘Bus Mu Nkomo’ in Sompa Drive show at Sunyani, Hon. Akwaboa explained that the government, under the leadership of President John Dramani Mahama, has rolled out strategic measures to equip the youth with employable skills and promote sustainable livelihoods.
According to the Regional Minister, several employment and skills-training initiatives are currently being implemented through agencies such as the National Youth Authority and the Youth Employment Agency.
He noted that as part of these efforts, many young people have already been recruited into the Ghana Police Service, the Ghana National Fire Service, and other security agencies.
The Minister further disclosed that the government is supporting individuals who wish to acquire vocational and technical skills, including hairdressing and other trades.
“Under the initiative, beneficiaries are attached to master craftsmen and women to undergo practical training, while receiving stipends throughout the learning period,” he stressed.
He revealed that the interventions commenced about three months ago and expressed optimism that, by the end of the government’s four-year term, these measures would lead to a significant reduction in unemployment across the country.
The Regional Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to empowering the youth with skills that will make them self-reliant and contribute meaningfully to national development
