The Parliament of Ghana has formally declared a vacancy in the Kpandai Constituency, paving the way for a rerun of the parliamentary elections as ordered by the High Court in Tamale.

In a letter dated 4th December 2025, the Clerk to Parliament, Ebenezer Ahumah Djietror, notified the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC) that Parliament had been served with a court order requiring a fresh election in the constituency.

The notification was issued under the Clerk’s constitutional mandate outlined in Article 112(5) of the 1992 Constitution, which obligates Parliament to inform the EC when a seat becomes vacant.

According to the letter, the vacancy stems from a ruling by the High Court following legal proceedings concerning the Kpandai Parliamentary Elections, with the court’s decision delivered on 24th November 2025.

The Clerk noted that he was served as the 4th Respondent in the case, identified as Suit Number: NR/TL/HC/E13/22/25.

The communication officially triggers the process for the Electoral Commission to set a date for the rerun election in the constituency.

Parliament stated, “Accordingly, notice is hereby given,” signaling the formal commencement of the electoral procedures required to fill the now-vacant seat.
