Residents of Atuna in the Jaman South Municipality of the Bono Region have opposed a proposed community mining in the area.
During visit, the residents told Sompa FM that they were satisfied with cashew and cocoa farming for their livelihoods.
According to the residents, they were not in any position to accept community or any form of mining, either legal or illegal to destroy their cashew and cocoa farms which remained their source of livelihoods for decades now.
The residents said they were also aware and learnt a cue from the sufferings and consequences of mining which destroyed water bodies, farm lands and the forest and vegetative covers.
They said allowing any form of mining in the area would threaten the livelihoods of the people and called on the government not to issue license and concession to any mining company to mine in the area.
The residents emphasized their dedication to protect their farm lands and the environment and warned illegal miners or communing mining companies against attempts to operate in the area, saying that the did so at their own peril.
