Professor Elvis Asare-Bediako, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Energy and Natural Resources, has attributed the growing level of youth indiscipline to the neglect of the nation's cultural values.

He said educational institutions could not be blamed for the level of moral decadence in schools, saying that families also played critical role in shaping the behaviour of their children.

In an interview with the media in Sunyani on the sidelines of the National Day of Thanksgiving and Prayers, urged families to visit their children in boarding schools regularly.

He said schools were able to discipline students in those days, and added however that the situation had changed now, worrying that schools and teachers could not discipline students now.

Prof Asare-Bediako noted that the decline in moral values was not only limited to schools, but the entire society.

Prof Asare-Bediako called on the nation to revisit abandoned cultural values promoted discipline, respect, and responsible citizenship.

He urged effective collaboration between families, teachers and all stakeholders to restore and imbibe in the youth the typically Ghanaian values and customs.
