The Member of Parliament for Ablekuma North, Ewurabena Aubynn, has called on the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection and other relevant institutions to strengthen policies and programmes aimed at promoting inclusion, protecting the rights of persons with albinism, and creating equal opportunities for them to thrive in society.

‎Delivering a statement on the floor of Parliament to commemorate International Albinism Awareness Day, observed annually on June 13, Hon. Aubynn emphasized the need to safeguard the rights, dignity, and welfare of persons living with albinism.

‎Sighted on the official Facebook page of the Parliament, the day was marked under the theme, “Proudly Wear My Skin: Celebrating All Skin Tones,” highlighting the importance of embracing diversity and promoting acceptance of people regardless of their skin colour or genetic condition.

‎According to the Ablekuma North legislator, many persons with albinism continue to face discrimination, prejudice, and social exclusion despite ongoing efforts to promote equality and human rights.

‎She stressed that more practical measures are needed to address the challenges confronting the community and ensure their full participation in national life.

‎Hon. Aubynn urged government agencies, civil society organisations, educational institutions, and other stakeholders to intensify efforts to improve the welfare of persons with albinism and reaffirm Ghana’s commitment to building an inclusive society where every individual is treated with dignity and respect.

‎She further called on all Ghanaians to work collectively to eliminate stigma and discrimination against persons with albinism, noting that inclusion is essential for national development.

‎“Persons with albinism must be given the opportunity to live, learn, work, and contribute fully to society without fear of discrimination or exclusion,” she stated.

‎The MP's remarks formed part of activities marking International Albinism Awareness Day, a global observance dedicated to raising awareness about the rights, challenges, and achievements of persons with albinism while promoting their protection and inclusion in all aspects of society.

‎Her call adds to growing advocacy efforts aimed at ensuring equal opportunities and social justice for persons with albinism in Ghana and beyond.
